President’s Message

I am very thankful to the Members of the Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh who have given me an opportunity for serving as President, from 1st October, 2016 of this prestigious Institution of the state.

I extend my warm regards to the Past Presidents as I have learned from them for guiding me, time and again. I would need full support of Shri B.K. Lahoti Ji, Vice President of Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh and all the members of the Chamber.

As President of Chamber, I would like to put in best to see Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh move towards becoming an organization which can deliver.

Merchants’ Chamber had been incorporated by Late Lala Kamlapat Singhania Ji in November 1932 to promote industry, trade and entrepreneurship and protect their interests.

Under the tenure of Dr. Rohatgi’s presidency, Merchants’ Chamber has created a Forum of Chambers of Uttar Pradesh, abbreviated as F.C.U.P., which comprised of Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh, Western UP Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Central UP Chamber Commerce & Industry, Eastern UP Chamber of Commerce & Industry, National Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Bundel Khand Chambers of Commerce & Industry. The objective for creating F.C.U.P. is to empower the common voice of industrialist/entrepreneurs/traders working in various cities of Uttar Pradesh. I will endeavor to reorganize the meeting of F.C.U.P. for the sake of promoting ease of doing business in Uttar Pradesh.

It being a businessman, I appreciate the steps of Central Government to implement the GST (One Tax One Country) for which registration shall be starting from November, 2016 onwards.

Once the rules of GST are framed we shall be conducting series of workshops and training sessions. We shall request number of experts to speak of effects it shall have on Trade and Industry, debate pros and cons and represent to State and Union Governments accordingly. Ease of doing business is most important for growth of our nation and state.

Merchants’ Chamber has always been trying to get direct air connectivity from Kanpur since long time. Things are moving but very slowly. One flight has been announced but success depends upon the timing of the flight.

The Metro has been announced and DPR approved and it promises to reduce the traffic on GT road. Many more measures are needed to decongest the city.

Number of Railway crossings are to be reduced to ease the traffic on GT Road. Some plans are to be made for de-choking of the Mall road, Ghantaghar and other areas.

We have created 12 subcommittees to look into the various issues related to Trade, Industry, Infrastructure and civic amenities development Health and Lifestyle management, Fiscal, real estate and have appointed Chairmen and vice Chairmen to concentrate and work out solutions. We have invited input from members and requested them to join these committees by sparing their precious time.

We are also trying to renovate the Chamber premises for better facilities and amenities, to attract participation of our members.

We hope for a better future of Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh.

We need your active participation in your matters of choice.

Sri B.K. Lahoti
President - Merchants' Chamber of Uttar Pradesh
